From self-doubt to self-confidence -
how do you get from A to B?
What things in life do you want to do but you haven’t done it because you lack confidence?
Maybe you really want a certain job or start your own business, but you’re scared that you might fail.
Maybe you would like to ask someone out on a date but you fear being rejected.
Maybe you want to ask for a promotion, or a salary raise but you’re scared that your boss might say no.
No one is born with confidence. Confidence is something you learn, something you develop and something that you need to practice.
Most women that I speak to are not confident. Maybe they are confident in a certain area of their life which is great, but in most areas they are not.
When you have a low self-esteem, and you constantly doubt yourself then it’s very difficult to get out of your comfort zone and chase your goals and dreams.
So, you need to change that negative voice inside your head and start to practice being more confident.
Because in the end of the day it’s the stories that we keep on telling ourselves on repeat that makes us feel not confident.
Most people are not even aware of what stories they tell themselves. Start to take notice whenever you feel low in confidence: what we’re you thinking before you felt that way?
Then think about what you need to think instead to feel more confident. It’s really all about practicing and correcting yourself in the heat of the moment.
What else can we do to feel more confident?
First of all, I want you to close your eyes imagine your future self.
Who is she?
What does she look like?
What is she wearing?
How does she walk, talk, behave?
Who does she surround herself with?
What are her dreams and ambitions?
What does she really want?
What does she need to do to achieve that?
What is she prepared to do and let go of to achieve that?
By knowing why you want to do something and how you want to be remembered you will feel more motivated to get out of your comfort zone and chase your goals and dreams.
Now look at your current life.
Where is there a gap?
When you for example look at your clothing cupboard what do you see? Do your clothes excite you and make you happy?
Do you feel confident in your clothes?
If not, how can you change this and who can help you? Maybe you can ask your fashionable friend to go shopping with you. Maybe you can hire a stylist for a day to help you with your wardrobe.
Have you been to the hairdresser lately?
Do you put on makeup in the morning?
Try find out what you need to do to your appearance to feel good and confident. And no, you don’t need to be the skinniest or the prettiest to feel confident. But you can feel fresher by putting on makeup or feel more confident in your clothes when you buy something that fits and suits you well.
Then how do you talk to yourself? Are you constantly bringing yourself down or do you lift yourself up? You need to talk to yourself as if you are speaking to your best friend and lift yourself up when you’re feeling down. We can be our own worst enemy and stand in the way of achieving what we want.
Now imagine you were your most confident self. What would you really want? If you knew that anything was possible and you would 100% succeed, then which goals and dreams would you chase?
A lot of times we bury our dreams because we think it’s too hard and we can’t achieve it anyway.
The only way to feel more confident about reaching your goals and dreams is to take action.
It’s that simple….
Just go out, take baby steps, and try. When you fail, and you fall flat on your face then just get up, adjust your plan and try again. Remember that many people failed many times before they succeeded.
Also see what resources are available for you to become more confident in your skills. What courses can you follow? These days you can pretty much learn anything online.
You can also just think of a baby. Do you think a baby would just give up and stop trying to walk after falling numerous times? Of course not!
A baby will never give up and will try again and again and again until it can walk.
So why are you so hard on yourself when things don’t work out? Why do you give up so easily? Why don’t you try again?
Now make a list of all your achievements so far. No matter how small. By looking at all that went well you will feel more confident. If you succeeded before then surely you will succeed again.
You can make a list of all the compliments you’ve received. It doesn’t all need to be work related. This can also be a message from a friend on how much he/she appreciates you. All these little things can help boost your confidence.
Now I want you to look around you and see who do you surround yourself with? If you surround yourself with 4 women who have a low self-esteem you will become the 5th.
If you surround yourself with 4 confident women, you will become the 5th.
So, choose wisely….
Maybe you need to have some difficult conversations but do what you need to do so that you don’t surround yourself with people who bring you down or don’t support your goals and dreams.
I’ve said this many times before, but I’ll say this again because it definitely affects your confidence and that is don’t compare your journey to someone else’s because there really is no point. We are all on a different path.
Also don’t worry about what others think and especially don’t let the opinions of others stop you from achieving what you want.
Then lastly what do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered? How do you want your children to talk about you one day? Do you want to be remembered as someone who was constantly learning and growing and taking risks? Or someone who never dared to do anything and who never got out of their comfort zone?
By knowing why you want to do something and how you want to be remembered you will feel more motivated to get out of your comfort zone and chase your goals and dreams.
In the end, the more you get out of your comfort zone the more confident you will become.
